Interviewer: “David, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself and your journey so far?”
"Sure! My journey has been quite diverse. I have always aspired to work in a technical environment, which led me to start my career as an industrial mechanic. At the age of 20, I served as a paratrooper in the military and later in a multinational corps. After leaving the military, I became a certified mechanical engineer.
In 2019, I joined Essemtec as a service engineer to gain a deeper understanding of our products and customer needs. Currently, I work as a Product Specialist in our Dispensing team, focusing on innovation and improvement.
Outside of work, I am passionate about video games, especially those that allow me to explore new worlds and challenge myself. I also enjoy mountain biking, which helps me stay connected with nature. Environmental consciousness is very important to me, both in my personal life and in our work at Essemtec.
Interviewer: “What do you like about working at Essemtec?”
“From the beginning, I was impressed by the technology and its seamless implementation. The integration between hardware and software is remarkable. Our machines are designed to be intuitive, making them user-friendly. As a service engineer, it was always rewarding to see how easily customers could interact with our equipment. Additionally, I found it exciting to see the variety of products our customers were producing with our machines.”
The team at Essemtec is highly skilled, and we work collaboratively, always aiming to improve our products. We take customer feedback seriously, and we often fulfill special requests. Coming from another industry, I found the electronics assembly field to be vast, offering plenty of opportunities for growth and learning."
Interviewer: “Essemtec is known for integrating sustainability into its designs. How is this reflected in your machines?”
"Sustainability is a core principle at Essemtec. For example, we use mineral cast for the base of our SMT-machines. This material offers superior vibration damping—up to 10 times better than traditional cast iron—and requires up to 75% less energy to produce compared to traditional methods.
Our machines are also designed to be energy efficient, reflecting our commitment to sustainable practices in both materials and energy consumption. Our SMT-machines have built-in energy storage units, allowing the energy from the motors to be recuperated during braking and reused to accelerate the motion axes."
Interviewer: “Essemtec also integrates a sustainability approach when it comes to upgrading equipment. Could you tell us more about that?”
"We have a quarterly software update program which improves machine performance by integrating new features and incorporating customer feedback. This significantly extends the lifespan of our machines. Customer feedback is crucial in our continuous improvement process. For example, our latest generation of dispensing equipment offers substantial improvements in dispensing speed. Customers with older Essemtec machines can upgrade their equipment to benefit from these advancements. Even older models like the PARAQUDA or SCORPION can be upgraded for enhanced dispensing performance.
We also provide modular upgrades. For instance, a customer with a FOX can add another Pick & Place head or a dispensing valve, transforming it into an all-in-one machine. Furthermore, existing customers can easily integrate our new I2S system to inspect for irregularities during production, thereby preventing costly production errors."
Interviewer: “David, I also heard that your Solder Paste Jet Printing solutions contribute to sustainability. Could you tell us more about that?”
"Certainly. Unlike traditional screen printing, which often uses excess solder paste and requires regular cleaning—resulting in waste from cleaning agents and wiping cloths—our jetting-technology dispenses only the precise amount of solder paste needed. This leads to up to 30% less solder paste consumption compared to screen printing.
Additionally, our nozzles and tappets are designed for long-term use and require minimal cleaning, which is unique in the industry. By using high-quality parts that can be cleaned rather than replaced, we significantly reduce waste. Moving forward, Essemtec will continue to focus on minimizing its environmental impact and providing solutions that help our customers reduce waste and improve sustainability in their operations."
Interviewer: “Thank you for your time, David.”
